With a heavy heart, we have decided to let go of a small part of our private collection. Among them is this unique walking ensemble of Victoria Luise, Princess of Prussia. Garments from the German imperial family have hardly survived at all. This is why this costume is an absolute rarity.
Victoria Luise Adelheid Mathilde Charlotte of Prussia, by birth Princess of Prussia, by marriage Duchess of Brunswick-Lüneburg, Princess of Hanover, Princess of Great Britain and Ireland (* September 13, 1892 in the Marble Palace in Potsdam; † December 11, 1980 in Hanover), was the seventh and youngest child and only daughter of Empress Auguste Viktoria and Emperor Wilhelm II. As the wife of Duke Ernst August, she was the last Duchess of Brunswick until his abdication.
The ensemble consists of an walking dress, a black hat and a plastron. Jewelry, gloves and umbrella are not included; they were not part of the purchase (years ago) from the estate of a noble family.
The walking dress is made of thin linen fabric. The costume is a two-piece suit consisting of a jacket and skirt. Both are decorated with buttons. The jacket is subtly modeled on the military style. Black silk darts on the long sleeves. In good condition. The skirt has a large water stain on the back. The silk plastron is in very good condition.
The hat is made of black silk and decorated with feathers. In very good condition.
