One of the earliest party dresses, ca. 1917. It's a fabulous example of the time when Edwardian fashions began to meld and give way to the more "flapper" style of the roaring twenties! Metallic silk brocade fabric, done in vibrant shades of bright royal purple and teal blue. Peacock blue fine netting accents the colours of the brocade, making up the fly-away angel sleeves and pointed, draped, panniers that cascade down the skirt from the dropped waist. There is a thick silk charmeuse hip "belt" that's done in a matching rich purple. Embroidered trim made of thick metallic gold thread with royalty-worthy glittering glass beads, sapphire coloured jewels, and crystal clear rhinestones. The front "drop" portion of the jewelled trim has four large "gems" (glass) that add an extra fantasy feel to the dress. Excellent condition with very few flaws/repairs needed! It displays amazingly, like a high-end museum piece. One of the panniers has an area of scattered holes. The jewelled trim that runs along the top of the bodice has a backing of metallic lace against a fine netting. - There are a couple places where there are breaks in the netting and lace that need to be mended. On the very inner-most cream chemise, it has a kind of thick waist-band type of utilitarian ribbon that closes around the waist, and it has multiple splits in it. Altogether: Incredible condition for a breathtaking dress like this! Overall exceptional for a gown of this era & style - dresses like this are truly getting more difficult to find!
