PAQUIN Coat, dated Summer 1911

A Paquin cream satin coat, dated summer 1911. Label: “PAQUIN * Paris 3. Rue de la Paix * 39. London Rover Street * Été 1911”. Back of label is inked with "91861 M. Parrish". Jeanne Paquin (1869–1936) was a leading French fashion designer, known for her resolutely modern and innovative designs. She was the first major female couturier and one of the pioneers of the modern fashion business.
To the coat: Cream charmeuse having cream chiffon sleeve with a shaped overlay of black chiffon, sleeve and coat back decorated with crystal bugles and beads with metallic threads, cream chiffon collar and front edge cut away to hem, trimmed with bands of beaded chiffon, chiffon lining. Fair to good condition: Bead losses, some black colour migration to upper right front, water marks, soiled at hem, holes to lining, few small holes and faint spots to chiffon, label partly unstitched. The decoration is not included.
