The woman who wore this dress was wealthy. She was also not the youngest. The whole getup, the dark colors, and even the darker lace are reminiscent of an older woman's dress. And she was a bit stouter. A rare dress therefore. Because most dresses that have survived from the early 20th century are narrow, light and delicate.
This antique dress is a two-piece. The top is a successful combination of brown silk, light and black lace, tulle, tassels, rhinestones and velvet. ¾ long sleeves. High stand-up collar. Wide attached belt, somewhat reminiscent of the belts on 1860s dresses. Lined with cream silk on the inside. The skirt, also made of (brown and black) silk, has beautiful intarsia of lace backed with light tulle. Small train. The underskirt is no longer present. The dress is in very good to excellent condition. It could be worn carefully even today. The decoration is not included.
