Wow, what a dress! We called it the ‘firebird dress’. Two beautiful firebirds are embroidered on the dress using sequins, glass pins and rhinestones. The wings and tail are made of white glass pins, the body and head are made of sequins and the eyes are made of rhinestones. The fire that the two birds breathe is also embroidered from rhinestones. The look is rounded off by the turquoise-coloured (gals?) stones sewn into the two firebirds, but also into small flowers scattered across the dress. Unless we missed something: all the turquoise-coloured stones are there. The dress bears the Parisian label: Laferrière. Many dresses from the Laferrière fashion house are illustrated in fashion magazines of the time - quantitatively more than from Worth, Paquin or Doucet. Laferrière dresses were en vogue and highly coveted. The owner's name is embroidered on the label: Melle Marjorie. The green silk of the dress is interrupted at the top by a silk lace waist. This is embroidered with a floral motif. Half-length sleeves. U-shaped bust cut-out. The dress fastens at the back with hooks and eyelets.
Very good condition, with a few imperfections: Very minor sequin and rhinestone loss on the firebirds, glass pins missing from the embroidery in the chest area, one tiny hole, smaller holes in the top of the bodice, some hooks and eyes (in the skirt area) missing, discreet signs of wear. There are press studs on the back of the firebird, which wraps its wings around the waist of the dress. However, the corresponding counterpart is missing. All in all, however: a unique piece of clothing that is unrivalled. The decoration is not included.
The last pictures are examples of other dresses by the designer. In the years 1905-1910, dresses with the same label were illustrated in every French magazine.
