Belle Epoque Evening Gown from the department store “Au Bon Marché”, Paris. Au Bon Marché ("the good market", or "the good deal" in French) is the name of one of the best known department stores in Paris, France. It is often cited as the world's first department store. The founder was Aristide Boucicaut. Émile Zola's novel Au Bonheur des Dames involved research on the store and a Zola-created character, named Octave Mouret, is said to be based on Aristide (source: Wikipedia). This beautiful dress is labelled with „Au Bon Marché * Maison A. Boucicout * Paris“. Boucicaut died in 1877 in Paris. However, his name was used some years for branded products, as this dress.
This rare and well-preserved gown enjoys with opulent black lace, which is drawn over light green and black silk. In the sleeves and neckline area was used cream coloured lace - as a contrast. The high set waist band (typical for this time) close back with a lovely bow. The elegant touch is emphasized by the black silk fabric which serves as a train. Excellent condition. Only spots on green inside hem of the dress, sweat stains under the arms. Two small spots on the chest, which are barely noticeable. The decoration is not included.
