We love this series and the movies too! They are a beacon of cinematic art, especially when it comes to fashion. That's why this dress had to join our collection. No matter how much it cost. Here it is: from the world stage to tranquil Bad Vilbel, Germany. It was worn by Maggie Smith in one of her signature roles as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham. The dress can be seen in the first season, in episodes 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Designed by Susannah Buxton, Cosprop labelled with inked actor's name, another annotated 'c.1902, KL00161', comprising: an Edwardian style figured mauve/ black silk day dress, the separate bodice with Edwardian soutache trimmings, cummerbund-like silk damask waistband with Edwardian jet-like beaded buckle, Edwardian gold embroidered black lace undersleeves; with chemisette of ivory spotted tulle with large pink paste brooch and jabot; matching trained skirt; cotton petticoat and bum pad; a bonnet of with violet and grey tulle with hand-painted berries and leaves; and a jet beaded necklace. Verry good condition. Chemisette with faint brown stain to front and a tiny hole, not immediately obvious. petticoat with a few stains to hem and a couple of small scattered holes.
