Exceptional Art Nouveau gala or evening gown with coat, dated ca. 1909. Label: “Mlle. * J. Franken * 35 Breevort PL* Brooklyn”. The dress and coat ensemble is in ivory cashmere with silk embroidery. Ivory lace appliquéd to ivory netting. Silk trim at the neckline with a lace ruffle along the top. Fabulous cut outs down the sleeves with lace under sleeves and turned back cuffs. Silk cummerbund waistband with tails down the side that appear through a cashmere slide in the skirt. Sweeping train with an underskirt in taffeta and cashmere. Matching 18th Century style coat has a stand collar with chenille bows and silver tips. Gorgeous woven silk covered button decoration. The dress and coat are lined in ivory silk. Boning in the bodice. The ensemble is in very good condition. The coat has some smudging on the back. Some shattering on the lining of both pieces. A couple of smudges on the skirt front and back. The decoration is not included.
