Antique-Gown

Red and black silk striped society dress, ca. 1895. Origin: America. Woven with a floral pattern with a bodice covered with shirred chiffon embellished with black jet beads, stand collar, fitted sleeves, and front hook and eye closures; paired with matching silk taffeta brocade skirt trimmed with rows of ruffled black taffeta and red taffeta pleated dust ruffle. The overall condition is good to very good. There is a very moderate wear to the chiffon under the arms along the seam to the wrist area. The bottom skirt hemline has some minor wear along the edges with some hanging threads and minor splits. There is some overall minor bead loss, most noticeable on the front and center back. The decoration is not included.
