Elegant 2-piece black evening gown, ca. 1896. The label inside the bodice bears the inscription “R.A. Higgins, Pittsburg, Pa”, indicating the provenance and quality of the piece. The evening gown presents a sublime combination of exquisite materials and ornate details that have enhanced every gala and elegant event. It is a two-piece ensemble consisting of a bodice and skirt, both made from the finest Chantilly lace, which is characterized by its filigree pattern.
The wide bateau neckline of the top emphasizes the shoulders and gives the dress a timeless elegance. A striking accent is provided by the black cummerbund, which emphasizes the waist and creates a slender figure. Half-length sleeves decorated with lace. The skirt is artfully embroidered with a poppy motif made from shaded silk, giving the dress a romantic yet luxurious touch. The hem of the skirt is trimmed with a net ruffle, which is also edged with chenille and lends the dress a delicate playfulness. Every detail of the dress has been carefully thought through and is characterized by the highest level of craftsmanship.
The condition of the dress is very good, despite some minor signs of wear, which do not affect the beauty and wearability of the dress. Minor tears in the lining; a few tiny holes; an open seam in the hem of the skirt; signs of wear on the taffeta lining of the hem.
