Elegant opera or evening coat, ca. 1896. Origin: France. Coats of this type were worn over evening dresses in cold or bad weather. They captivate with elegance and opulence, not so much with comfort. This coat is made of black silk satin. Inside lined with cream silk. The coat is heavy, so between the two types of silk other materials have been processed. Elegantly crafted stand-up collar decorated with white and black tulle. The front area is decorated with black lace on cream background. Long sleeves decorated with (hanging) black tulle on the back. In good condition, with a few faults: the tulle in the collar area is a bit dusted and needs to be sewn on in a few places; the inner silk has become brittle at the edges; inner silk in the underarms area is chipped; a few minor tears in the silk; a repaired area in the back. The decoration is not included.
