Though Maison Lipman is not a well-known label, in researching, we read this from the 1889 "Woman's World" book, Volume II, edited by Oscar Wilde: "The illustration... represents a gown made for the Queen of Portugal by the Maison Lipman, 2 Rue de la Paix - a rich and delicate creation in lace and soft textures." And in the 1890 Volume III: "The Maison Lipman has not been behindhand in making up the dresses that have been seen at every fashionable gathering." And you likely know that Rue de la Paix was THE great couture dress designers street (with Paquin at No 3, Worth at No 7, Doucet at No 21 and Cartier at Cartier at No 13). So if you want a great Parisian Couture Victorian Reception or Society Gown in near mint condition (there are imperfections in the bodice lining - just a little lining taffeta replacement under the collar is all that is really needed - and there is slight tearing of embroidered chiffon gauze on one cuff) of lovely pastel floral brocade ivory silk satin fabric ... from a label good enough for a queen. Not to mention the fact that 1896 shape of the high puff sleeves is just too fabulous!
