Elegant evening or ball gown, ca. 1890. American manufacturer label: B. Leroux, New York. The dress is made of cream silk satin printed with blue, yellow and red flowers. The back part of the bodice and the long train are made of it. The front part of the dress is made of lace in matching colours, also the subtle puffed sleeves. The antique dress is a one-piece dress; the top is sewn to the skirt. Front closure of the top, back closure of the skirt. Wide satin cummerbund belt. Half-length sleeves. The dress is well to very well preserved. Wear in the underarm area. Minor tears in the lace of the sleeves. Dusted train. Probably missing tulle at the neckline. The dress may have been altered. From an 1880s dress to an 1890s dress. The materials were too valuable to not have worn this beautiful antique ball gown for another fashion generation. The dress comes from the Museum of the City of New York. The decoration is not included.
