Very rare vest with a Russian label from the Tsarist period, ca. 1890. The Cyrillic letters result in: J. Sagmeister * St. Petersburg. The label refers to the Art Nouveau period in Russia. The vest itself is characterized by tassels, fringes and trimmings embroidery. It is an urban garment, which - we have the impression - is based on a Russian traditional costume. Inside lined with cream silk. Very well preserved. Discreet signs of age and wear. Garments with Russian label are very rare. In long years as a collector, this vest is the first garment with a Russian label. The break with Tsarist tradition was so profound after 1918 that almost all urban and courtly clothing from the period before has been destroyed or gradually applied. A few pieces survived abroad. As did this vest. And those that survived are extremely expensive ....
