Very pretty reception dress from Paris, ca. 1896. The beautiful part is the second bodice, which was meant for a ball, an opera or a theatre visit. Label in the top of the day dress: Mme Gibert * Specialite pour Enfants & Jeunes Filles * 65 Rue St Lazar. The Rue St. Lazar was a famous fashion street in Paris at the turn of the century.
The antique dress is made of a green silk fabric. The pattern is a dark grey square with lily leaves. Light grey lines running vertically have the same leaf motif. The evening top is beautifully embroidered in the chest area and decorated with a black lace. Under the black lace there is a cream-coloured one. The top is laced at the back. The day top is closed in front with hooks and eyelets. Velvet breast insert. High stand-up collar made of the same material. Decorative button in the chest area. Wide velvet belt attached to the top. The skirt is decorated with velvet appliqués, which are wave-shaped in the hem area. Wide velvet hem - almost like a dust ribbon in the hem area. The skirt runs out in a train.
The dress is in good to very good condition. It has a few minor flaws. These would be: On the evening top a few pearls/pins are missing certainly in the chest area. Are the cords still original? This is beyond our knowledge. At the day top some hooks and eyelets are missing. These can easily be replaced. At the skirt the wave-shaped applications are loose in a few places. They just have to be sewn on. In the waist area the skirt is no longer pleated. We suspect that the skirts have been separated to store them better. The skirt can easily be shaped.
A very beautiful and unique antique dress. Brooch and pearl necklace are not included.
