Dinner dress, ca. 1895, provenance: Valentine Museum, America. The antique dress is a one-piece, made of black and white silk; black jabot made of Chantilly lace; high stand-up collar; long sleeves. The front chest section, the shoulder pads on the sleeves, the front section of the skirt, the chest section of the bodice and the stand-up collar are made of light-colored silk covered with a black net. Strands of French jet border these light-colored sections; these strands of jet beads hang down from the skirt. A large bow is attached to the back in the shoulder area. The ribbons of the bow fall like Watteau pleats. Small train. Front closure with hooks and eyelets. In good to very good condition. A tear in the netting at the front of the skirt; signs of wear in the hem of the train. Smaller tear in the net. Discreet loss of pearls on the hanging strands. Small loss of pearls on the edging. Very subtle signs of age and wear overall. The decoration is not included.
