One-piece wedding dress, ca. 1892. label on the waist band: Miss E. Beddoes * 11 Henrietta Street W * Cavendish Square. Cavendish Square is a square in Marylebone, in the West End of London. Provenance: collection from Scotland. The antique dress is made of cream silk. It is a one-piece. The bride here was literally "tied up" with hooks, eyelets and cords. The result could certainly be seen. The dress is beautiful and exquisite. It is decorated with ecru lace in the hemline, sleeves and neckline. Very long train attached directly to the bodice with a sort of "strap" (we've never seen it like this before). The top is reinforced on the inside with corset stays. Two silk panels hanging down the sides. The dress is in very good condition for its age, with a few negligible malesses: The edge of the train shows some wear marks; here the silk has come loose in the crease of the train; two "holes" in the upper silk layer of the train (cause unknown); very small underarm defects; generally very subtle signs of age and wear; the silk ties for adjusting the lace in the neckline are only partially present. The decoration is not included. We have not had such a magnificent wedding gown in our collection for a long time.
