Elegant two-piece ball gown from France, ca 1900. The dress is a haute couture work from the Belle Epoque period. The base fabric of the dress is a cream silk satin. Over the satin there is an overdress made of tulle embroidered with sequins. Stylized decor with suggested floral motifs. Overdresses of this type often came from renowned embroidery workshops in Paris. Jacques Doucet or Worth often purchased such fabrics for their opulent gowns. The patterns on these overdresses either came from antiquity or were freely invented. There was no limit to the imagination.
This antique dress has a round cut neckline. Half-length sleeves made of embroidered tulle. The skirt ends in a long train. The dress is in good to very good condition. The tulle overdress has been restored in some places and has become somewhat "thin" in others. This dress was presented in 2017 at the "Museum of Art" of the city of Toulon as part of the exhibition "Falbalas, portraits and fashion for women between 1850-1930". The decoration is not included.
