What a dress! It is one of the most beautiful and eye-catching Art Nouveau dresses, dating back to the early days of this artistic and cultural historical era. It is an excellent example of the counter-movement of young fashion designers to backward historicism. The antique dress is a two-piece gown tailored from a cream-colored, very finely ribbed silk. Dots have been woven into the silk. Appliqued embroidery with silver plated seed beads and pearls. In the skirt area, these appliqués are in a scroll motif, which was typical of the Art Nouveau style of the time. Later the shapes and motifs became even more playful and creative. The chest of the top is covered with a kind of "plastron", probably inspired by ancient Greek fashion. The plastron is attached to the collar with a tab. Unsymmetrical design on the back of the top. As an extension of a fabric decoration, a kind of bow is attached to a ring (also decorated with beads). Large club or mutton sleeves ending in very tight sleeves with cuffs. These are also decorated with beads. High stand-up collar with bow. The dress is in very good condition. The fabric is in excellent condition on the outside. The marks are: very subtle discoloration and stains on the lining of the top; the seam of the collar is open; minor loss of beads; under the right arm are subtle stains and very few tears in the silk. A museum piece that is unparalleled.
