Georgian Silk Waistcoat

This late 18th‑century cream silk waistcoat, made in England around 1770, is a fine example of Georgian men’s fashion. The long‑line waistcoat features a round neck, silk embroidery in pink and green flower heads arranged in elegant, sinuous stripes, and decorative trims along the collar, pockets, front opening, and silk‑covered buttons. The reverse is made of cotton, typical for the period.

Condition & Authenticity

The waistcoat shows expected signs of age, including an alteration to the back, slight discolouration to the cream silk, minor staining under the arms, and gentle rubbing and wear to the silk surface. These are normal traces for such a delicate and historic garment and underline its authenticity and rarity.

Collecting Significance

As a rare Georgian silk waistcoat, it is highly desirable for collectors of 18th‑century menswear, historic textiles, and museum‑quality fashion.
