Instead, only the visible front section was made and buttoned into the jacket or coat, creating the appearance of a full waistcoat while reducing expense and allowing garments to be adapted more easily as the child grew. Surviving examples are today considerably rarer than adult waistcoats.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe present example is constructed from a finely woven textile and lined on the reverse with linen. It closes with a row of buttons, of which \u003cstrong\u003eseven original buttons remain present\u003c\/strong\u003e, likely silver.
