Original stays from the Rococo period, ca. 1760. Origin from Spain. These stays are made of blue Moiré silk, wide and low across the bust. Hand-stitched lateral panels that smooth and press the torso into the fashionable cone shape. Gold thread applications. The stays fasten at the front. Wood sticks at the front (see photo). Eyelet holes. Lined with off-white linen. Stays were always worn over a shift, which protected the skin from its corset materials. Very good condition taking in consideration the age of the stays. Some signs of wear. Little cracks and holes in the blue silk. Replaced laces. The decoration is not included. Very, very rare to find. The most stays of this period are made of brocade and don’t have wood sticks.
