Fantastic and expensive three pieces suit from ca. 1904 in gray wool, lace and velvet. Labelled with „Mandel Brothers, Chicago“. The blouse is made with a mixture of three different lace over an ivory netting and a pleated silk chiffon and lined in silk. Velvet appliqués on the chest and cuffs. Velvet waistband. The suit jacket has a cape collar with hook closures down the front. Velvet appliqués with button and tassel decoration down the front. Because of the pigeon waist front the front peplum is not attached along the top, because it hooks down the front, beneath the pigeon pout and close to the body. Otherwise if it were flattened, you would lose the s-curve silhouette from the period. The suit is lined in ivory silk satin and has an inside patch pocket. The suit is in good condition. There are some small, light brown dot stains on the bodice. The silk lining is shattering under the arms. The chiffon facing on the collar has tears. The suit has some moth bites with a few that have been badly repaired.
