Lady's Two Piece Silk Brocade Dinner Dress, ca.1898. Bodice and skirt with pale blue green color brocade silk. The bodice with off white silk faille upper sleeves, and black lace at neck, sleeves and sleeve hems. Interior cotton lining boned. Crochet ball buttons. Skirt with cotton lined upper, and with buckram layer between lining and outer fabric below knees. Off white velvet to skirt hem interior. Multiple ribbons, pleats and bows to lower skirt. The overall condition of the two garments is very good. Fraying to silk at seam above uppermost button, stain below lace, right hand sleeve. Two or three dots of staining. Armpits are discolored. Skirt waist band frayed where there may have been a button. A couple of light stains to lining and hem. Discreet underarm stains. All this little flaws: You’ll barely notice them. Provenance: Monterey History and Art Association. The decoration is not included.
