Neuosier Serving Platter, ca. 1900 – KPM Berlin Imperial Service for Kaiser Wilhelm II

Construction & Materials

This exceptionally large Neuosier serving platter from the imperial porcelain service for Emperor Wilhelm II is a true showpiece of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin (KPM) and is considered the largest platter ever produced for this service. Crafted from white‑glazed porcelain and likely dating to around 1900, it features the characteristic iron‑red Neuosier decoration.

The design includes a magnificent Rococo cartouche, the Prussian eagle beneath the royal crown, and the historic cipher “FR – Friedrich Rex”, directly referencing Frederick the Great and the Prussian monarchical tradition. Additional polychrome floral bouquets and a finely executed gilt vine‑leaf border enhance the festive, courtly, and highly representative appearance of this imperial platter.

A particularly notable detail is the monogram “WR” (Wilhelm Rex), underscoring the personal connection to Kaiser Wilhelm II. The reverse bears the classic KPM Berlin marks — the underglaze blue scepter and the red orb mark — confirming authenticity and imperial provenance.

Historical Context & Collecting Significance

Serving pieces from the imperial household are exceptionally rare, and Neuosier platters of this size are among the most coveted objects of Kaiserzeit porcelain. Their combination of royal provenance, symbolic decoration, and masterful craftsmanship makes them standout highlights for collectors of KPM Berlin, Imperial German tableware, and representative objects of German history.
