Two‑Piece Walking Ensemble, ca. 1907 – Linen & Cotton with Hole Lace Embroidery

Construction & Materials

This two‑piece walking ensemble, dating to ca. 1907, consists of a linen blouse and a cotton skirt, both featuring beautifully worked hole lace embroideries. The ensemble reflects the transitional elegance of late Edwardian daywear, combining practicality with decorative refinement.

The blouse includes:

  • red darts shaping the silhouette

  • a cotton inner bodice for structure

  • a bow tie and high stand‑up collar, both original to the ensemble

The skirt is made of sturdy cotton with matching hole lace embroidery, completing the harmonious two‑piece design.

Condition

The ensemble is preserved in very good condition, with:

  • stable linen and cotton fabrics

  • intact embroidery

Minor age‑related details:

  • one stain on the skirt

  • rusty hooks and eyelets on the back

  • evidence that the skirt was washed long ago

Belt and jewellery are not included. Still wearable today.
