Antique Black Silk Shoes, ca. 1926 – C.H. Porter Shoe Co., Strap Closure & Original Button

Construction & Materials

These elegant black silk shoes, dating to around 1926, were made by C.H. Porter Shoe Co., Galena, Illinois — a refined example of late flapper‑era footwear. The shoes feature a classic strap closure with the original button, a detail that adds authenticity and charm.

The round toe, dark leather insole, and sleek silhouette reflect the understated sophistication of 1920s evening shoes. Their craftsmanship and materials make them both visually appealing and surprisingly wearable today.

Condition is very good, with only minimal age‑appropriate signs of wear. Decorative items shown in photographs are not included.

Historical Context & Fashion Significance

Around 1926, American shoe manufacturers embraced luxurious textiles such as silk, lamé, and satin, often paired with practical strap fastenings. Shoes like these were worn with cocktail dresses, flapper dresses, and tailored evening ensembles, completing the modern, streamlined look of the Jazz Age.

Their preservation and wearable condition make them ideal for collectors of antique shoes, 1920s fashion, and Art Deco accessories.
