White Linen Jacket, ca. 1908 – English Lacework & Edwardian Elegance
Construction & Materials
This white linen jacket, dating to ca. 1908, creates an airy, elegant silhouette through its combination of fine linen and delicate crocheted lace trim. Along the left and right front panels, the piece features beautifully crafted three‑dimensional floral lace appliqués that add depth, relief, and texture. Above them sits a subtle star appliqué with two hanging tassels, giving the jacket a touch of playful movement.
Design & Lacework
The back is designed with a two‑part construction connected by lace, complemented by another softly swaying appliqué. At hip level, additional floral lace elements enhance the feminine detailing and balance the elongated silhouette. True to its period style, the jacket was traditionally worn open, emphasizing its lightness and decorative character.
