Even in 1888, fashion sought ways to stand out—and this elegant red wool jacket achieved exactly that. Its appeal lies not only in its modern cut for the period, but especially in its striking red colour, a shade rarely worn by adult women in the late 19th century. At the time, red was considered bold, even offensive, unless worn by a teenager or a very young woman, making this garment an expressive and socially meaningful piece of late 1880s fashion.

The jacket displays the typical silhouette of the late 1880s, featuring a small peplum, a front closure with four large buttons and hooks, and wide cuffs. Its most distinctive feature is the charming row of pom‑poms that adorn the hem and front edges—an unusual and playful decorative choice that adds movement and texture. The interior is lined with burgundy silk, and includes an inside pocket, a practical detail often found in higher‑quality garments of the era.

Despite its age, the jacket is in very good condition, with only minimal signs of wear. The decoration shown in some images is not included. Measurements: length approx. 60 cm, waist approx. 69 cm, bust approx. 77 cm.

As an authentic example of 1880s women’s outerwear, this jacket offers collectors and historians a rare glimpse into the expressive colour choices, craftsmanship, and social codes of fin‑de‑siècle fashion.
