Caraco from the Rococo period, ca. 1760, probably from England. The caraco is a lap jacket that was popular until the 1790s and was often worn with a skirt in a different color. The cut of this caraco is close-fitting in the à l'anglaise version with dividing seams at the back, which open into pleats from the waist. It is made from velvety green silk with a floral motif. Pointed neckline. Typical three-quarter length sleeves with ruffled flounces. Decorative bows (difficult to see in the photos) on the sleeves. Closure with a hook (has been replaced) and an eyelet as well as a cord. Lined with linen on the inside. Very good to excellent condition. A small tear in one of the pleats (on the back). Some wear to the silk in 2-3 places. The decoration is not included.
